Professional Mulch Installation in Wilkes-Barre, PA

Why Professional Mulch Installation Outperforms DIY Application

Mulch installation appears straightforward on the surface, but poorly executed mulch application is one of the most common sources of plant health problems in Wilkes-Barre, PA residential landscapes. The most damaging mistake is volcano mulching, a practice where mulch is piled in a cone shape against tree trunks and shrub stems. This traps moisture against bark tissue that needs to remain dry, creates habitat for rodents that gnaw at the cambium layer, and prevents the natural root flare from developing properly. Kelly Landscaping technicians are trained to identify existing volcano mulch conditions and correct them as part of our installation service, pulling mulch back from tree trunks to expose the root flare as nature intended.

Beyond avoiding the common mistakes, professional mulch installation in Wilkes-Barre, PA involves a series of preparatory steps that improve the long-term effectiveness of every cubic yard of material applied. We begin every mulch job with bed edging to create a clean, defined border between the mulched area and the surrounding turf. Precise edging improves the visual impact of fresh mulch dramatically and also prevents grass from creeping back into the bed area. Following edging, we remove any weeds present in the bed and, where clients choose the upgrade, install a pre-emergent weed barrier treatment before mulch is placed to extend weed suppression through the season.

Kelly Landscaping sources premium mulch products for our Wilkes-Barre, PA clients including aged hardwood bark mulch, double-processed natural mulch, dyed mulch in natural color tones, and decorative stone mulch for areas where organic mulch is not appropriate. We install mulch at the proper depth of two to three inches in beds without existing mulch and one to two inches as a refresh layer over existing material. These depths provide effective weed suppression and moisture retention without creating the excessive depth that excludes air and water from the root zone. Our crews complete most residential mulch installations within a single day, leaving the property clean and presenting immediately upon completion.

Our Mulch Installation Service Process in Wilkes-Barre, PA
